I'm gonna disagree with most here, i find work boats to be essential for my coastal cities, as fish with a workboat + lighthouse is 5 food and 1 hammer, or 2 hammers with god of the sea. in coastal cities that may not have a hill for a mine, or a city that may not have grassland/rivers, worked ocean tiles help greatly.. For fish research fishing, build work boat, move work boat to fish, and there should be option to use the work boat on the fish. this consumes the work boat and you get the new higher yield from the fish tile.. I'm the biggest idiot in the world. so i was playing the maori on an emperor/quick game. it was a standard sized map and continents. i was doing very well when i discovered russia on another continent..
